Chocolate Vanilla Marble Cake
Ingredients
Dry
- 2½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- 2½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
Wet
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1¾ cups (350 g) sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temp
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk, room temp
Chocolate swirl
- ¼ cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp milk (or hot water)
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, deepens chocolate flavor)
Instructions
- Prep
- Preheat oven to 175°C / 350°F
- Grease and line a 9-inch round pan or loaf pan.
- Mix dry ingredients
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter & sugar
- Beat until pale and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
- Add eggs & vanilla
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
- Mix in vanilla.
- Combine
- Add dry ingredients in 3 additions, alternating with milk.
- Mix just until smooth—don’t overdo it.
- Make chocolate batter
- Take about ⅓ of the batter and mix it with cocoa powder, milk, and sugar.
- Marble it
- Spoon vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the pan.
- Swirl gently with a knife or skewer (2–3 passes only!).
- Bake
- Bake 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool
- Let cool 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out and cool completely.

- Add chocolate chips to the chocolate batter
- Finish with a chocolate ganache or vanilla glaze
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
