π«π Chocolate Orange Cake
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 ΒΎ cups all-purpose flour
- ΒΎ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 Β½ teaspoons baking powder
- Β½ teaspoon baking soda
- ΒΌ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- Β½ cup brown sugar
- ΒΎ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ΒΎ cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
- Zest of 2 oranges
- Β½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
For the Chocolate Orange Ganache:
- Β½ cup heavy cream
- 4 oz dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 tablespoon orange juice (optional for extra flavor)
Instructions:
1. Preheat & Prep:
Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line with parchment paper.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Mix Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the sugars, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, orange juice, orange zest, and sour cream until smooth.
4. Combine:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
5. Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35β40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
6. Make Ganache:
Heat the cream in a small saucepan until just simmering (do not boil). Pour it over the chopped chocolate in a bowl. Let sit for 2β3 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add the orange zest and juice, and stir again.
7. Glaze the Cake:
Once the cake is cool, pour the ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides for a beautiful finish.
Optional Garnishes:
- Orange slices or candied orange peel
- Chocolate curls or shavings
- A dusting of powdered sugar
