🍌 Southern Banana Cobbler
This is warm, gooey, buttery, and somewhere between banana pudding and cobbler cake. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream and you’re officially winning.
🛒 Ingredients
Fruit Layer
- 4–5 ripe bananas, sliced
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (keeps bananas from browning)
Batter
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
Optional Add-Ins
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Caramel drizzle for serving
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2️⃣ Prepare the Bananas
In a bowl, toss sliced bananas with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice. Set aside.
3️⃣ Melt the Butter
Place butter in a 9×9 baking dish and put it in the oven until melted. Remove carefully.
4️⃣ Make the Batter
Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Stir in milk until smooth (don’t overmix).
5️⃣ Assemble (Don’t Stir!)
- Pour batter over the melted butter (do not mix).
- Spoon banana mixture evenly over the batter.
- Sprinkle pecans if using.
- Do not stir — the magic happens in the oven.
6️⃣ Bake
Bake 40–45 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
🍨 Serve It Like a Southerner
- Warm with vanilla ice cream
- Drizzle caramel on top
- Add whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon
